The African Elephant

The African elephants have played a very important part in human culture for hundreds of years. Their size, strength, and stature have intrigued people of many countries. But unfortunately the lack of space, the human difficulty to see them as “good neighbors” and the overexploitation make them one of the most common animals to be in danger of extinction. There are different ways we could conserve this amazing animals, at least for a few more years.

Elephants are not just animals, they have served as helpers in war, have entertained people of all ages at the circuses; they are a symbol of courage and loyalty to many countries. They are considered a key in African landscape; they pull down trees, break up bushes, dig waterholes, and forge trails. The natural lifespan of an elephant is about 70 years, is comparable to a human's but sadly in the last few decades there has been a dramatic decline in elephant population.

As many other big animal, elephants need a huge habitat because of their size and the amount of food they eat, and humans see this as a threat. We basically see them as competitors. The size of the land has been reduces in the past years to be able to do constructions for humans. Bur there are solutions to this like building parks specially for them or tried to keep them in a zoo.
Hunting is another problem regarding elephants; hunters have killed elephants for their ivory tusks because in society ivory became more valuable than gold. Although Elephant hunting became illegal in many countries, it still exists.

There are ways we could save these animals, like building parks especially for them and although they might not be big enough for them it keeps they far from being killed or dying of starvation. Trade prohibition is another thing we could do. We have to start by realizing how important elephant are in the world, and do everything we can to keep them with us for many years to show the generations to come the beauty of these species.

CRIME

Katherine Queen, 62, loves adrenaline, she used to race cars in N.Y. and six months ago she lost her car in a bet to her opponent. Therefore, a day later, she was trying to steal a car in the supermarket´s parking lot, even though, she was very nervous.

Once she got to the parking lot, she wanted until another old lady parked her car far from the entrance. The plan was to follow the old lady, take her keys out of her purse and the drive away with her car.

Unfortunately, when she was trying to start the car, the police with the owner caught her inside the car. In one second, she got out of the car and began to make everything seem very confusing.

After two hours of false explanations, the police took the robber to the police station. They made her stayed there and took her to the court a week later. Finally, she had to pay a US$50.000 bail and did sixty five hours of social work.

MI IDEAL VACATION

Actually I think that I already had my ideal vacations, it was six months ago and took place in the US. I went there by myself and also with my money that was an extra reason to have a better trip, because I was paying for it.

I went just for the summer time, for the first weeks I went to a relatives´ house that i have in Charlotte, NC. We had an amazing time, we haven´t seen each other in many years so it was great, we were happy for could spent time together and we also tried to relive the moments that we couldn´t before.

After that I spent some days with another cousin and her family in Hickory, NC. It was a different experience but it was also nice because I got to know her little two little girls, some times I helped her and her husbund with the baby´s care and I can say that, even is unbelievable for many of you I learned a lot from those kids.

Following with my vacations and after the family time I went to Dallas, TX to visit another friend that I haven´t seen since I was in fifth grade. We staid spent some time in Dallas getting ready for the top trip that I had in the plan: VEGAS. In Dallas, we went shopping, we went out with her friends, we were dancing, etc.

We were in Vegas for a week and had an unforgetable time. We gamble a lot, drank more than enough, met a lot of people, I seen the best hotels I ever seen and I also had the best food ever.

After the huge week, that was enough for as and crazy stuff we went back to Dallas, have some time to relax and get some rest and after that I went back to NC to said bye and thanks to everyone over there.

That was my best vacation ever that I will never forget about, it was the perfect time for the family, friends and me.

MY IDEAL JOB

Ever since I was a child I knew I wanted to be a nurse, and I wanted that carrer for the same reason that we all as a child want a carrer, because my mom used to work at a Hospital by that moment and off course she was a great nurse, so, i wanted to do the same thing that my mom was doing. But I remember when i was about 8 or 9 years that I was told that nursing wasn´t the right carrer for me, actually, i was told that nursing wasn´t the right career for no one, because you would never make a lot of money being just a nurse.

For all is clear that i was too little to be able to think more about that, to be more rational, so, since that moment I began to think about another major that would bring you enough skills, knowledge, capabilities, resources and tools in order to make a lot of money. After a lot of time of thinking I decided to study economy when i was maybe 10 or 11 years old.

By that moment I was in fifth grade and actually I never thought again about that again, not even when I was about to get my high school degree, I never thought about that seriously enough. So you can picture what were the results.

Yeah, exactly that, what you are thinking!

When I got my degree from high school I started my first career at the Andes University, I began to study Economy, but 2 years later I realize that I had choosen the wrong career and also the wrong university for me. I want to let you know that I didn´t even think about changing my carreer and continue my studies at the university; when i talked to my parents, and told them about my already taken decision, I told them: "I don´t want to study economy any more and I don´t want either to be more time in the Andes University".

That was a hard live time but it was necesary for me, and know I´m gratefull for that. Because it make me more mature and that experience gave me the enough time to let me thing about my future and know I can say that what I really want to do as my ideal job is to be able to manage my own company. If I could make a company in another country I would like to do it in Europe and I would like to help young colombian people with their carrers and plans, people with real and proffesional dreams like me.

MY PROFILE

My name is Luz Adriana Sánchez, but i like people to call me in any other sweet way. I was born in Bogotá, Colombia and i really love my country, actually, I have been living here since i born. I have been in the US and i think it´s a nice place to go for vacation but i could never live there. There are huge differences between the two cultures, the life style, the people and many other things that I think I would never like to live with. For living I´m totally in love with Colombia.

I´m 22 years old, I got my High School degree five years ago and now I´m studying Bussines Administration at the Sabana University that is located in Chia, a little town close to my city. I´m in fifth semester of the career and I think the university is fascinating. I love this live, I really enjoy going to my classes every day and learning as Im doing.

It´s really exciting to have the opportunity to go to the university, because we all know that de economy in my country it is not the best one, there are a lot of poor people in colombia that have to pass each day with less than 2 dollars in their pockets, but even that, we have a different situation in our families; i´m talking about me and my classmates; so that, we can go to the university, take classes, have breakfast, lunch and dinner with out any kind of problem.

About what I like to do in my free time i would say that I´m interesting in getting some sleep after dealing with college, homeworks, friends, family and house stuff and doing some exercise at the gym.

My favorite music is the one from Jhon Mayer, Norah Jones and Disney soundtracks are in the top ten.

My favorite movies are Eurotrip, Italian job, The Notebook, Big Fish, The Lion King and specially important The Pursuit of Happyness.

And to don´t make this longer I´m going to stop here for today.
